Governor Schwarzenegger launched the www.MyIdea4CA.com website for Twitter users to share and discuss their ideas to move California forward. The MyIdea4CA Twitter Forum was initiated to extend a popular conversation that began in June of 2009 on Twitter when Governor Schwarzenegger called for public participation for new ideas on the state budget. This discussion created one of Twitter's most discussed trending topics with its use of the #myidea4ca hashtag. With the creation of MyIdea4CA.com the use of the #myidea4ca hashtag has now been expanded to include eighteen categories over a vast range of issues from transportation to state parks.
MyIdea4CA.com centralizes the Twitter conversation by indexing the #myidea4ca tweets so they can be searched, sorted, and ranked and extends the conversation by allowing users to vote and add comments.
To date MyIdea4CA.com has received 1696 ideas from public participation through this website.
I am personally committed to making government more accessible and responsive through social media tools like Twitter and MyIdea4CA. I’ve gotten great feedback from Californians through Twitter, and I’m sure that this new Web site will allow us to hear more ideas and help identify new ways to approach the challenging situations that face our state.
- Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger
Sharing Ideas / Hashtags
Ideas are submitted to the website through your Twitter account when you include the hashtag #myidea4ca along with your idea in your tweet. Sub category hashtags may be used to further organize ideas that fall under similar category areas. For example, including the hashtag #bgt with #myidea4ca would sub categorize that idea on the website under "State Budget."
A listing of hashtag sub categories can be found by clicking on the blue "Tweet your idea" button in the upper right corner of every page.
A tweeted idea can take up to one minute to show up on the website after it first appears on Twitter's search page. If you want your idea removed from MyIdea4CA.com send a tweet to @myidea4ca from the Twitter account that submitted the idea. Please include a link to your idea's comment page to identify it.
Voting / Most Popular
You can vote an idea up or down by clicking on one of the thumb icons. The highest rated ideas are listed in the Most Popular section for each category. An idea with a vote total that reaches -3 will fall below viewing threshold and have its content hidden until manually selected by the viewer. You can sort the "Most Popular" ideas by category section and sub sort by day, week, month or year.
Comments / Most Comments
Users may comment on tweeted ideas. The most commented ideas are listed in the Most Comments section for each category. Comment threads are concurrently ranked by time frame and comment total.

The Search form is handy for entering your Twitter username to list your ideas or to find very specific content by keyword.
